Family-friendly fitness center with an indoor pool and a sauna, plus a steam room.
The aquatics center at the St. Paul Eastside YMCA typically maintains its main lap pool around 80-82°F (26.7-27.8°C), ideal for swimming laps and general water workouts. If a warm water or family pool is available, its temperature is generally kept higher, around 88-90°F (31.1-32.2°C), suitable for therapy, lessons, and recreational family use. It is recommended to contact the facility directly for the most current pool temperature readings.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews for the YMCA locations are mixed, with several highlighting significant drawbacks, particularly in the Saint Paul area. Positively, one specific location was praised for its cleanliness, uncrowded environment, and hot sauna, with a previous issue of late Saturday openings reportedly resolved. Staff members like Todd received high commendation for their professionalism, helpfulness, and welcoming demeanor. Some locations also offer nice swimming pools and basketball courts, and the clientele at one facility was noted as friendly and primarily senior, creating a comfortable atmosphere. However, a major recurring criticism across the Saint Paul YMCAs is the severe lack of modern and sufficient gym equipment (e.g., no barbell racks, insufficient cardio machines), leading many to conclude that the membership price is not worth it for those primarily seeking a gym. Facilities are often described as outdated, uncomfortable, and in need of upgrades, especially the pool areas. There were also instances of poor customer service, including a rude refusal to allow prospective members to tour a facility and a complete lack of follow-up on physical assessment requests, leading to membership cancellations due to a perception of staff indifference.

UPDATE 7/2/25 - adding a star because they have not had a late-opening issue since my first review. Nice location, like I said. Original review: I *really* want to like this location - clean, uncrowded, sauna actually hot (the Midway sauna is barely warm) - but I've been coming on Saturday mornings for maybe six weeks and already twice they have had staff no shows or some other issue and opened late. Today I waited 40 minutes and finally left. There were 20 cars there, so about 15 hours (or more, who knows when they opened) of people's Saturday wasted. I know YMCA is a nonprofit, but it's hard to keep paying for a membership when you can't rely on their already short weekend hours.
Todd called me to sign me up and he knew exactly the information I needed. he was professional easy going and kind he sold me on my membership in 3 minutes telling about the gym and asking me about my schedule to make sure this gym was a right fitfor me. Once I got there he greeted me and made me feel welcomed in person and I’d just like to say thank you Todd!!
I have visited many YMCA’s. But when it comes to Saint Paul they really don’t have any good ones. I visited Y’s in downtown, east side and west side. They have huge place but they really need to upgrade them. On East side I was told they didn’t have barbell racks with different weights and was asked to you the generic barbel instead. They also don’t have sufficient bench’s or cardio equipments( they have like 7-8 treadmills, 1-2 stair, 2-3 elliptical). They badly lack in gym equipments. For the amount of monthly fees they charge it’s not a recommended place if you plan on using it as a gym. They do have a really nice swimming pool and two basketball courts. That’s pretty much they have to offer. Since I have been to Y’s in different cities I really expected them to have a good standards. Conclusion not worth the membership price if you want to use it as a gym! Period Update: I had submitted in request for physical assessment twice. I got two emails saying someone will be calling me soon. I haven’t heard back from them at all! It has been over two weeks since I last put in request. It just shows that they don’t care. I usually enjoy Y’s but having worst experience with Y’s in here. So reducing my rating to 1 star and i have cancelled my membership.
Went in to check out the facility as my wife and I are thinking about joining the Y and was treated very poorly, we were told we couldn't be in the facility without being a member (woodbury allowed us to tour the facility buts it's very small and outdated) she was rude and basically said this facility is not safe to be in.
The staff here is friendly AND helpful (unlike most of the staff at the #ymcamidway location)! The facility is outdated and not as "comfortable" feeling as some of the other locations and the pool area is way outdated. The clientele is mostly retired seniors so there's typically never any of the reckless eyeballing from guys that I experience at other gyms. All in all it's a good place to go for a good #workout 👍🏿💪🏿 #thatsthereal #realreviews #fitnessreviews #gymlife #reviews #mpls #saintpaul #minnesota #minnesotareviews #mnreviews #thereal
