Sprawling rec center featuring a climbing wall and multiple swimming pools, plus a gym and an indoor track.
The aquatic facilities at the University Recreation and Wellness Center maintain specific temperatures for different activities. The Lap/Competition Pool and Dive Well are generally kept between 79-80°F (26.1-26.7°C). The Recreation Pool is typically warmer, maintained at 84-86°F (28.9-30°C). For relaxation, the Whirlpool is usually heated to 102-104°F (38.9-40°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The gym receives mixed reviews. While some users praise its good hours and the availability of numerous machines and free weights, significant criticisms are leveled against the quality and selection of resistance training equipment, deemed inadequate for a large and modern facility. Specific issues include a lack of certain heavy weights (e.g., 60lb dumbbells) and machines (e.g., calf raise machine), as well as frequently broken amenities like weight clips. Crowding, especially at peak times, is a common complaint, exacerbated by frustration over entire floors being reserved for small, inactive groups. A recurring negative point is the unprofessional communication of operating hours, with changes often only announced via barely visible paper notices rather than updated online platforms.

Ive never seen such a big gym that looks so modern have such terrible equipment. They manage to have a place to buy a shake but can’t have 60 pound dumbbells or a calf raise machine. Update the gym or don’t include the gym as a part of the tuition you charge students. Pathetic.
I just hope that in the future, when they change their working hours they make sure to update them on Google Maps and verify the changes so they’re reflected as soon as possible.. For me this isn’t a big issue since I live in Dinkytown and can just walk back but it’s still unprofessional.. This is such a basic thing.. yet every time the hours change I only find out when I get there and see a barely visible piece of paper on the entrance door.. like we’re still living in the 1990s or something Yeaaaah Budddyyy Light weight!!
Lots of machines and free weights, can be crowded at times but usually as you move away from the front entrance, it gets a lot quieter. Definitely recommended not going at peak times if you want to use the kilter board.
Great hours and almost every free weight and machine you could want. However, due to heavy use weight clips and amenities are often broken.
Great facilities but the resistance training equipment selection feels like less than what you’d find at planet fitness compared to how busy it is. Entire floors reserved for groups of 5 people who spend the time sitting on the floor is infuriating
