Many families have had very positive experiences, preferring Goldfish over other swim schools due to engaging lessons and creative teaching methods. However, one significant negative review from the Goldfish Swim School Farmingdale location reported concerns about high instructor turnover (5 different instructors in 6 weeks), inadequate instructor training, classes ending prematurely, and poor curriculum execution by some instructors, leading to a perception of minimal effort and poor value for the monthly cost.

My son recently celebrated his birthday at Goldfish, and we couldn’t have been happier with the experience! Setting up the party was straightforward and the staff answered all of my questions. During the party our hostess kept things moving smoothly. She and the other staff were friendly, patient, and attentive to our group which included several children with special needs. The kids loved swimming and playing in the pool, and my son already said he wants his party there again next year!
Mr.J is amazing! My daughter started swimming at Goldfish at age 3 and she is almost 5, and I have been able to keep her with Mr.J as she has moved up levels. He is so kid friendly and very fun with the little swimmers! And he observes their strengths and areas where they can improve so well! Overall, everyone in the facility is so friendly and very accommodating as I do tend to have to reschedule or makeup classes. I love that about Goldfish. And the classes are 3-4 students which is amazing because the instructor can focus more on each child's needs. 10/10 I would highly recommend if looking to get your child swimming lessons.
Frustrated and disappointed with my experience in Goldfish Swim School Farmingdale. We joined in December 2024. I was excited and wanted to introduce my daughter to water safety and swim skills from an early age and really gravitated towards Goldfish's curriculum. I was previously a swim instructor when I was younger at a few different facilities and really liked the teaching of Goldfish - consistency, age appropriate and safety. However, I feel that I have not had that experience. The turnover rate for my daughter's class is inexcusable. My daughter is currently enrolled in a parent and child class so I am in the water each lesson. We have had 5 different instructors in the past 6 weeks. It seems that we get a brand new instructor every time we have our class. We had a brand new instructor teaching a trainee and they talked the whole class to each other. Today our instructor asked the deck supervisor "how do I teach this class?" I do not understand if these new employees are being properly trained or what. The classes are advertised as 30 minutes long. For the older classes Mini 3 and up, the classes are 25 minutes then the last 5 minutes are for skills and parent feedback. However, as we are a Mini 1 class, we are in the water the whole time there is not reason to end the class 5-6 minutes early. I have given feedback to the managers however it does not seem to matter as we get a new instructor each week. I understand that people's schedules change, especially college aged employees, however to say you can't find one teacher to be consistent in a 6 week time span is crazy. The curriculum is displayed for the instructors to refer to throughout the class. The Mini 1 and Mini 2 have different songs each week with the skills to help the children learn. As infants and toddlers learn best through repetition and music. However, there effort in these classes I've experienced by the instructors are very minimal. Barely any singing, interaction with the kids and explanation of skills. I asked to the front desk staff, why am I paying for basically an open swim in the pool? For the amount you pay monthly, I really cannot say that this is worth it. I really gave it a chance and have given feedback as well and I continue to be disappointed week by week.
My son loves his swimming class. The staff and everyone is always pleasant and Jay the instructor is very good and helpful and makes class fun while learning. I would highly recommend this swimming school.
Nothing but positive things to say about goldfish swim. We left another school for this one and realize we made the best decision ever. The instructors are engaging and the lessons are creative - keeping the kids entertained and educated.
