This is a very nice & large resort with many daily activities, 7 pools, 4 mini golf course, water sports & golf courses. There are several restaurants so you don't have to go outside the resort to eat. There are shuttle that run every 20 minutes with many stops. The TV does not have any premium channels. You only get 1 set of pool towels per unit, so you have to wash them if you want fresh ones. So, 4 stars because not as luxuries as the Hilton & Marriott resorts we've stayed at in the Orlando area. We have enjoyed our visit.
I booked a 3 bedroom villa for a week during the summer. Booking was a breeze through the IHG app, wonderfully priced. Checking in was a nightmare. It literally took about an hour to check in. The line was long and moved very slowly, but the reception area was very nice. Once I finally made it to a representative, the process was fast and smooth. It's important to note that this vacation property is a timeshare. You will be invited to sit in or participate in timeshare presentation and will be offered free services that aren't "free" at the end of the day. Do your research before visiting. The property is massive. There is so much to see and experience, so be ready! Our villa was amazing!! Extremely spacious, 3 rooms, 3 bathrooms, full kitchen stocked with everything you need (plates, bowls, utensils, pots, pans, coffee maker, tea pot, blender, baking dishes, full refrigerator with ice maker). Our villa also had a large living room with a sofa bed, large dinning area, laundry room with washer and dryer, covered patio with small table and chairs. Rooms were very spacious, beds were comfortable and pillows were decent. There is so much to do in this resort... There are about 7 pools, we personally used 3 or 4 of the 7. The lazy river is nice. You have to rent their tubes in order to use one, but it is not needed in order to enjoy the river. The tubes can only be used in the lazy river. You can pretty much launch anywhere and have a great time, but the hammocks are great! We purchased the 3 day package that includes tubes for the lazy river, mini golfing and the fun zone. Those must be activated each day and I wish I knew what they were about before purchasing, it really isn't worth the money. All in all, we had a great time and would definitely boom here again.
Overall excellent resort! Rooms are very spacious and clean. Very cozy beds! Amazing pools. Kids enjoyed the arcade and bowling! Only negative is the food. Expected more of a fresh theme focusing on smoothies, fresh lemonade, seafood, orange crush (emphasizing Florida oranges) and overall more of a variety. That said, we will be back!
If I could leave a zero I WOULD! My parents are timeshare OWNERS of the River Island. Last minute we got a call saying our rooms were changed, so to make sure it wasn’t a scammer we called back and spoke with another member who confirmed that our pool side room was still available. So we took an 8hr trip down there with the whole family. Including 5 kids with the youngest being 4 months old. Any parent can imagine how difficult of a trip that was, but it would’ve worth it to all spend time together as a family and be right by the water, but that was not the case AT ALL!! When we got here they then said our rooms were changed and sent our family to stay all the way across the resort, far away from where we originally booked. They sent us to west village in two separate apartment complexes, because someone decided to change our booking and didn’t properly notify us. We couldn’t even be in the same building together and we have to walk across the grass to even spend time together. We have spent most of our vacation trying to get answers, but no has been ANY help and we’ve talked to MULTIPLE people INCLUDING cooperate to no avail. Even if our room was under maintenance, as OWNERS, we should’ve had priority and been made aware way in advance. We’ve had to take time off from work and school. Our family vacation has been COMPLETELY RUINED.
Dealing with Holiday inn has been nothing but a headache. When we first got the timeshare 30 years ago they promised us that the maintenance fees won't go up, because we would be grandfathered in when we joined. When we would try to get a stay, we could barely get in and then they would even charge us to stay there! The maintenance fees keep going up and we can rarely get in! One of the biggest problems we had was when we had a timeshare scheduled they told us we had to sit through the sales pitch. I got really upset and told them that we can't afford to upgrade again and that if I had to walk around and watch what I couldn't afford that I'd be upset. Then when we went to check out they charged us for the room even though it was supposed to be free. I understand I didn't sit through the hole spiel, but I literally told them that I could not stay for the last couple minutes because I couldn't afford it and they got upset and mad at us. They were so rude and inconsiderate. We even drove over 2 hours to get there.
