About

Spacious gym featuring basketball, tennis and racquetball courts, plus classes and a spa.

The Bay Club San Francisco features a heated outdoor pool. While specific temperatures are not publicly advertised, similar luxury health club pools are typically maintained at a comfortable swimming temperature, often ranging between 80-84°F (approximately 27-29°C).

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Bay Club on Greenwich Street receives mixed reviews, often praised for its extensive and excellent amenities, including multiple indoor pools, squash courts, a full basketball gym, diverse cardio and weight rooms, and a highly-regarded rooftop workout area with stunning views. Members frequently commend the club's cleanliness, spaciousness, and the positive impact of recent renovations. Initial staff interactions are often described as welcoming and friendly, and some appreciate the respectful, fitness-focused atmosphere and unique features like a compression room and a self-serve smoothie lounge within the charming multi-story building. However, significant dissatisfaction arises concerning customer service, overcrowding, and value for money. Numerous members report unprofessional and disrespectful staff, unhelpful management when addressing issues, and difficulties accessing amenities due to a 'scheduling system' and perceived gatekeeping by young staff. The introduction of a 'shared membership' model is widely criticized for causing severe overcrowding in facilities like the sauna, leading to declining cleanliness in certain areas, and making the high monthly fee (e.g., $335) feel unjustified. Loyal, single-membership holders often express feeling unappreciated and overcharged compared to shared groups for the same crowded experience, leading some to cancel memberships and seek alternatives.

I am writing this review to express my disappointment in both the Bay Club and its Management. First, I am an executive member of +10 years of history with the Bay Club in SF and I’m canceling my membership because this gym doesn’t live up anymore to the standards I’m paying. They have introduced a shared membership where a group of “roommates” can share the cost of one membership so they pay a lot less than a single membership. This has caused the gym to get over crowded by members paying way less than what I pay, but they get all the same benefits and features, all while the cost of my single user membership has gone up to $335 per month. I’m using the same overrun facility and paying so much more. I tried to use the 8 person sauna over the last few weeks and lately it is packed with 12-14 people standing, making it an unpleasant and uncomfortable experience. The cleanliness of the gym overall is not as good as it once was either. Workout space is not good based on the number of members. There aren’t enough benches for example, 1 flat bench press in the whole indoor gym… this is Worse than 24 Hour fitness. I’m also disappointed because I asked the membership executives to give me a fair option to pay what everyone else is paying as a single member and instead of thanking me for my loyalty and finding a way to fix the situation they instead recommended that “the best thing to do is cancel and check back in the future”. After 10 years of being a premium member I feel very unappreciated. I asked if I could suspend my membership (which they should definitely allow for such loyal members) but the gym supposedly doesn’t allow this option anymore. So after over a decade of being a loyal and high paying member of the Bay Club I am leaving. The Bay Club has shown its colors that it doesn’t value its loyal members and dismisses them with poor customer service and attitude, no matter how long you’ve been a member or how much you pay. The new shared membership brings a new kind of crowd that is pushing out the loyal members and damaging the quality of the experience. I have brought guests in who are members at Equinox for less money and they said my Bay Club is “a dump” compared to theirs.

Well, well, well, look who finally made it to the Bay Club on Greenwich! Let me tell you, this place is fancy pants. The staff is so friendly, I felt like I was at a family reunion (minus the awkward hugs). And let's talk about clean, it's like they have a cleaning army that never sleeps. The indoor spaces are so large you could probably fit a small country in here. But, the real highlight is the yoga studio - it's amazing, although they could turn up the heat a bit, my toes were freezing! And don't even get me started on the two swimming pools, sauna, and steam room - it's like I died and went to fitness heaven. Now, I have to be honest, this place is definitely for the more conservative, stable, and wealthy crowd. It's like a city-based country club. And most of the members are older, so if you're looking for a hip, culturally relevant crowd, Equinox or Crunch might be more your scene. But if you can handle hanging with the mature, established set, and you go during off-peak hours, you'll have plenty of room to do your yoga and pump some iron without feeling crowded. And hey, the rooftop workout area is pretty sweet, and the cafe has Wi-Fi, so you can pretend to work while you actually just people-watch. All in all, I give the Bay Club on Greenwich gets 4 stars from me.

I had a great time today at the Bay Club on Greenwich Street in San Francisco. I was met by Tyler who gave me a tour and showed me all the amenities. This place is more than a gym. They have so much that you will just check it out for yourself. I liked that it was so clean. There are wide open spaces. It was not over crowded. I was impressed with the lounge that has self serve smoothies and the compression room. They have many personal trainers that exceed your expectations. The basket ball court is nice. Everyone enjoys hanging out there pre and post workout. People who are serious about fitness go there. It was a good mix of ages. Genders. People that go there are clean and respectful. Kudos to the manager for having patience with me and for running a good space. As soon as my schedule settles down., I plan on membership.

welcoming and well-equipped. This club is in an older, multi-story building, which gives it a special charm. Although the layout has many twists and turns, I enjoy exploring and finding new areas each time I visit. The staff is friendly and always available to help, which makes my experience even better. The facilities are excellent. Swimmers can use two large indoor pools. If you enjoy racquet sports, there are squash courts. There is also a full-sized basketball gym, two separate cardio rooms with various machines, and a great weight room with a wide selection of free weights and resistance equipment. My favorite feature is the rooftop workout area. On sunny days, the views are stunning. They have turned the roof into a fantastic outdoor space with cardio machines, free weights, and a large area of artificial turf for functional workouts. It’s a nice way to enjoy the fresh air while training. Overall, the Bay Club at Greenwich is a great premium health club with many amenities. Its variety of offerings and supportive atmosphere make it a perfect fit for different fitness goals.

The price dictates a level of professionalism that is not exhibited among staff, which is very disappointing. Members with an issue they wish to discuss are treated like complainers and “Karen’s”, rather than with respect and the assumption of positive intent. Amenities are difficult to access. Ask yourself if you would like to pay $335/month to wait 30 minutes for an amenity that no one is using (no really, all four machines were unused and open) because of a “scheduling system”. Ask yourself if you would like teenagers to keep you from using an amenity because they didn’t ask for your name and you forgot to provide it to them prior to sitting down on a bench to wait for said amenity. If you, like me, think that being treated with dignity and respect is important then this may not be the place for you. That being said, they have put a lot of effort into the renovations which are very very nice. The gym is spacious, open, and there is enough equipment for the members now that renovations are done. You will be pleasantly surprised with the amount of space and different areas you can use. The locker rooms are very nice, clean, and the lockers come with built in keypad locks which is handy. It comes down to who you want to interact with for the price you pay. If the answer is that you are ok dealing with disrespectful teenagers for $335/month then you will find the equipment you need. If you would prefer to not revisit high school bullying then perhaps another gym would be best.
