Leisure-style pool featuring a diving board and a separate kiddie area with a dumping bucket.
While specific daily temperatures can vary and are often maintained for comfort, the Rankin Aquatic Center's lap pool is typically heated to a comfortable range, often around 80-82°F (26.7-27.8°C), while the shallower activity and recreation pools might be slightly warmer for children and leisure users, generally aiming for a comfortable mid-80s°F.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? This water facility is widely considered a valuable 'hidden gem' in the Bay Area, providing much-needed water play options for all ages, from toddlers to older children. It features a splash pad with shallow standing water, a shallow pool (2-3.5 ft deep), shaded seating, and private changing areas. While some visitors commend the high number of attentive lifeguards and overall safety, a significant concern was raised in one review regarding a severe lack of lifeguard vigilance, where a child nearly drowned unnoticed. Other notable criticisms include poor communication regarding facility closures (e.g., the splash pad due to incidents), which has caused considerable inconvenience for visitors, particularly those with pre-planned events or long travel distances. Additional drawbacks mentioned are the mandatory entry fee for non-swimming adults ($7, children $5) and inadequate parking.

The splash pad is closed, they didn't bother calling or emailing any of the planned birthday parties. Especially ones whose age ranges are specifically for the splash pad. I get they can't control a kid pooping in the pool and can't fix it overnight. But their failure at communicating and just continuing to want to charge people is ridiculous. Some family comes from two hours out. Hard to adjust plans in 30 minutes.
There aren't many splash pads and water areas in this part of of the Bay so this is a great hidden gem. There's a shallow pool that goes to like 3 feet right next to the splash pad area. I love that there are several life guards on duty and a shaded seating area. The locker room has a few changing areas with curtains for privacy. Overall, I love this place and so does my 8-year-old daughter. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I had to pay to get in even though I'm not in the water and the parking kind of sucks. Next time I'll be sure to suit up and get my money's worth! $5 for kids $7 for adults
Lifeguards need to be more vigilant, or the pool should implement a program where the head lifeguard randomly tosses a toddler doll into the water to test the on-duty lifeguards’ alertness and reaction times. Today, my wife and I were at the pool, and as we were setting down our belongings, our 3-year-old son, thinking he was an Olympic swimmer, jumped into the water. Fortunately, we noticed him struggling to the surface for a breath. My wife let out a panicked scream, and we quickly pulled him out before he went under again. Shockingly, not one of the two or three lifeguards on duty noticed the incident or approached to check if everything was okay. Initially, I thought it might have happened too quickly, but several families nearby, who saw or heard my wife’s scream, came over to ask if our son was alright. This made me realize the incident wasn’t as fast as I first thought. I wish at least one lifeguard had come to ensure everything was okay. This happened shortly after the kiddie pool reopened, so the main pool wasn’t overcrowded, and the lifeguards’ attention should have been sufficient. For context, I had just grabbed my son’s life jacket and was about to put it on him after setting down our bags. Overall I had many positive experiances at this pool, love taking my family here. Hopefully this was just a fluke, a isolated incident, if upper management sees this please make sure alertness is always a factor for the lifeguards. as we say in the marines complacency and assumptions are what gets people ended (sanitized version to avoid censorship lol)
This place is amazing! It’s appropriate for all ages. Toddlers have plenty of space to play and be safe and the big kids have room to do big splashes and do big kid things. One thing I noticed right away is the severity of safety. The lifeguards on duty are extremely attentive and they have a lot of them monitoring the facility. Definitely a welcoming space and not overwhelming with too many people Definitely worth a little bit of a drive (but no more than an hour) I have a toddler so there aren’t too many water play places in the Bay Area appropriate for toddlers.
There is no separate baby/infant pool but the shallowest part of the general pool starts at 2ft and goes to 3.5ft deep. The splash pad for kids to run around is separate but located right next to it the shallow part of the pool. The splash pad does have standing water but it is below your knees, sometimes doesn't even go above your ankles.
