The Base Pool, located at Palm Pl in Tampa, FL (likely within or adjacent to MacDill Air Force Base), is a community aquatic facility primarily serving military personnel and their families. It typically features a large outdoor swimming pool designed for both recreational swimming and lap swimming, and often hosts various aquatic programs and events.
Specific, real-time temperature readings for the Base Pool are not readily available in public online sources. However, as a functional community pool, it is generally maintained at a comfortable swimming temperature, likely ranging from the high 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit (approx. 25-28°C), especially when heated during cooler months or for specific programs. It is advisable to contact the facility directly for current temperature information.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The base pool is largely praised as a clean, excellent, and underutilized facility, appreciated by families and lap swimmers for its available lanes and friendly staff. It's free for those with base access. However, significant concerns include its limited operating hours and short season, a broken waterslide (as of 2019), and inadequate auxiliary facilities such as hot locker rooms without fans, turned-off showers, a poor water fountain, and a lack of clocks or quality equipment. Some users also find the waterslide rules overly strict for children, and there's a general sentiment that the pool is a low-priority asset lacking sufficient support.

Great pool. But, for the 2019 season the waterslide is broken. This pool is a great asset for MacDill that can be share by all families. Unfortunately like most Air Force facilities the swimming pool is a lower priority than the golf course and doesn't get the support it needs. Better support would allow it to stay open longer, as well as better weekend hours.
Love the pool Clean and friendly staff. Only complaint is the rule for the water slide. My kid has to swim from one end up pool to the other. Would be fine normally but this is not your average size pool. Then after they have to tread water for 1 minute. The parents are right there it shouldn't be this complicated. My kid can swim the length of a normal size pool. Shouldn't have to tread water just for a slide he can touch the bottom and push up. All he does is dive when we go to either pool on base. He can go to other water parks and go down bigger slides no problem. Other then that it's a great place
Pool is nice. Locker rooms are hot with no fans. Showers are turned off and hours are still too limited to fit with duty schedule. The water from the water fountain is terrible. No clock for timing laps or even to know what time it is so you can get back to work. Quality of the kick boards and pull floats was not good, bring your own.
It's an under utilized base treasure. Deep enough for water aerobics, great temp and lanes available for lap swim. I don't have to wait for a lane to swim during lap swim. I wish it were open from April through October instead of having to pay another off base facility.
Excellent pool and hardly any people there. They do shut down at the sight of a storm but its for your safety. Its free for people with base access and clean. We come here often.
