My family and I have been visiting Chippokes since I was little, and we've always enjoyed every part of this place & never had any complaints. But...things have changed, unfortunately. I took my family to the swimming pool yesterday (Labor Day), which is the last day that it's open. We arrived there around 4:45p. They close at 6p. I verified with the cashier to make sure that we had an hour to swim. At 5:30p, my kids came up to me and told me that the lifeguards are closing the pool early to pick up the chairs. I was not too thrilled. There were other people visiting that felt the same way, also. Considering it was the last day, they shouldn't have done that. I was told it was going to be open until 6p, so therefore it should have been open until 6p. That only gave my kids a half an hour to enjoy the pool one last time. Totally not cool! Especially when you're leaving & see the lifeguards just playing around and taking pictures, instead of picking up the damn chairs! It irks me to have to write a bad review because I LOVE this place, but this needed to be said. It put a damper on my kids, & the other peoples, last day of fun before school started.
I absolutely love this place. The museums are cool. I havent campes here yet or swam in the pool but I would really like to soon. I absolutely love the little beach area on the river. My kids call it shell beach and love to collect shells and fossils there.
The pool is open 10 to 4 with the lifeguard taking a 15 minute break every hour. The pool will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday this week. I am camping for a whole week here and reserve America nor Chippokes Plantation State park informed use of this change in pool hours before are arriving. I would have camped somewhere else of I would have known, very disappointed. I traveled over 4 hours and the temperature is over 90 degrees to have NO pool.
On a hot summer day, there is nothing more refreshing than a dip in this pool. It is a huge pool with two diving boards! Please "like" my review if it helped you. 😊
The pool is currently closed due to the Pandemic Covid-19. But it is a beautiful area and I hope that it will be open once again this summer to enjoy a dip in some icy waters.
