About

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Cottontail pool community generally receives highly positive reviews, praised for its well-maintained facilities, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and a strong emphasis on safety. Members frequently highlight a wide array of activities and amenities, including various social events, food trucks, tennis courts, game areas, movie nights, and multiple slides and pools (such as a hot tub and wading pool) catering to all ages. The staff and lifeguards are consistently commended for their attentiveness, professionalism, and ability to ensure both fun and adherence to safety rules, often remembering children by name. The swim team is also noted as a positive aspect, and membership fees are considered reasonable with opportunities for community engagement through volunteering. However, some reviews indicate tensions regarding rule enforcement, with some members defending the staff's strictness while others express concern. A significant negative review criticizes the club's 'private' status and its handling of a reported lack of inclusivity for a child with a disability, describing the board's response as defensive, prioritizing safety and private club rules over investigating the concern, and noting slow communication. Conversely, some members suggest that harsh negative reviews often stem from a small group unwilling to follow agreed-upon rules.

Upon moving to the area we joined the Cottontail pool community after attending a birthday party. We were very casually looking for a pool to join, fully planned to visit and tour others in the area after driving by and hearing good things about those as well, but our decision was quickly made after a few short hours spent splashing. Knowing other school friends frequented Cottontail was a big initial draw for us too. We went from casually looking to a very hard, solid yes, and signed up for a bonded membership the next week. We have been thrilled with our decision since and eagerly look forward to each coming season and all that it brings. Seeing how well-maintained, well-run, attended to, and genuinely loved the pool and grounds are by the members, lifeguards, facility supervisor, managers, and board members has been evident from the time we pulled in the parking lot and continues to exceed expectations as things have gotten even more back to normal after Covid. Safety for everyone is an apparent first priority always and fun is a close second! Cottontail has a beautiful, relaxing, timeless, sunny, and friendly atmosphere and air, we felt welcome and like we had been swimming there for years from the time we walked up! While it can get pleasantly busy, it is never overcrowded. The membership fees are incredibly reasonable! There are also opportunities to give back to the small, close knit community and get back the small volunteer fee by volunteering while working with and getting to know others who quickly can become friends. There are food trucks, lots of social events, a great space for parties, tennis courts, a game deck, a basketball court, a human shoots and ladders game, other games, snacks, regular raft nights, movie nights, and lots of laughter. The blue, yellow, and white color scheme is beachy and classic, tucked quietly away with just the right amount of shade on those extra hot summer evenings where you can forget you just drove from DC and spend some quality time recharging with your family or alone. There's often music floating at just the right volume across the pool, smiles shared, and memories made. There are fun extras for all ages with the diving board, an in pool basketball hoop, adult swim lane for laps, a shallow end slide, and brand new deep end slide! The managers and lifeguards are the best - they're very attentive, remember the kids by name, and help make the Cottontail experience what it is daily! Summer comes with a little thunder and lightning at times (and is outside of anyone's control). The energy the lifeguards and managers put into ensuring everyone stays safe and follows the rules while being able to have the maximum amount of fun is so appreciated and recognized. We love being a part of the Cottontail family and proudly tell anyone we know or hear is pool hunting where we swim and with open arms! There's always a spot on the swim team, in the hot hot tub, a (pee free) wading pool, an umbrella and table, or pool deck side seat to enjoy for you and your family at Cottontail too!

We love being members at Cottontail Swim and Racquet Club! We’ve chosen this pool because of the friendly people, variety of social events, cleanliness and attention to detail. Plus they have a really nice hot tub, a fun picnic area and kids enjoy the great slides and cute toddler wading pool. There are many things we appreciate about this neighborhood pool which includes the attentiveness of the well trained pool guards and staff. When we are swimming we don’t always hear approaching storms so I am so glad the staff is paying attention and clearing the deck when a thunderstorm comes through! So nice to have a fun safe place to hangout this summer!!

This PRIVATE, COMMUNITY pool is great. It is well kept, has lots of activities/events, and the atmosphere is fun and welcoming. The unreasonable people writing harsh reviews are a small group with an agenda. Some aren't even members. They all have one thing in common, they refuse to accept or even acknowledge the simple rules they agreed to when they joined or were invited as guests. When they are asked to comply, they create a scene, embarrass themselves, and now continue their tantrums here. This is not a country club or a resort. It is a community pool (though a nice one) with a teenage staff doing their best, despite dealing with difficult adult guests. The staff does a great job and deserves to be treated professionally, with patience and grace when issues arise, and with realistic expectations for what they should provide.

Dear community: Please note this is a PRIVATE pool and they will not follow community guidelines as we expect when we bring our children here. Instead of investigating a sincere concern about the lack of inclusivity for a 5 year old child with a disability they responded with this standard messaging. This messaging only came after not hearing back from them over a week and when I threatened post a google review of their lack of response. This was the response I received from them: Each of our board members serves in a volunteer capacity. This email is not monitored regularly. We are a private 501(c)(7) non-profit social club. Our staff is Red Cross certified and trained to enforce our pool rules for the safety of all our members and guests. The member, whose guest you were, acknowledged receipt of our rules when they registered this year. Those rules clearly state that any conduct deemed unsafe by our staff is prohibited. It is the responsibility of the member to inform their guests of these rules. We acknowledge that you are upset with this incident. However, we also know that our highest priority is the safety of all our members and guests, which is what our staff was ensuring. V/r The Cottontail Swim and Racquet Club Board of Directors
