What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the aquatics center are mixed, highlighting varying experiences with cleanliness, swimmer behavior, and facility maintenance. While some praise the center as spacious, clean, well-maintained, with friendly staff, convenient hours, and good classes, others report significant drawbacks. Locker rooms are a common point of criticism, with descriptions of being 'nasty,' having urine smells, mold, and overflowing trash, though one review noted substantial cleaning improvements after a major maintenance program. Despite these improvements, a persistent lack of hot water in showers is a recurring complaint. Swimmer behavior and lane crowding are also inconsistent concerns; some experience rude conduct from younger clientele and overcrowded lanes, with young lifeguards perceived as ineffective, while others find lanes not too busy and appreciate the ability to swim uninterrupted. Staff are generally seen as 'ok' or 'friendly,' with older lifeguards noted for being more vigilant.
Reviews
- This pool does NOT appear safe for elderly, children, nor those with injuries who attempt rehabilitation. - Majority of clientele in their 20' are absolutely rude and have no concept of civilized behavior in water. I've been kicked in the head, legs, side,...and few even laughed at that. Younger life guards do NOTHING to ensure swimmers behave as humans, and not as wild apes. Most of those in their 20' barely master proper technique for swimming and unnecessarily splash water across adjacent lanes (maybe they're compensating for something). - Older life guards are far more vigilant and stricter (if one is lucky enough for them to be around) - Staff is ok. - Locker rooms are as clean as they can reasonably be - There is no swimwear dryer - Lanes are overcrowded: 4 swimmers per lane is almost the rule at 6pm. - Public lanes are open 12:30-3pm, and 6-8:30pm
Updated August 8, 2025: I promised to update my 1 star review if I saw improvement and I did see positive changes today. I’ve bumped it up from one to three stars because they completed a huge summer maintenance program. They cleaned the showers, steamed the pool deck, cleaned tiles, fixed some water issues, and more. It’s definitely cleaner and it smells much better. But it still hasn’t moved up to four or five stars because today there was no hot water in the shower. I don’t know what it’s like to maintain a facility this complexity. I’m sure it’s challenging. And there’s probably never enough money. But between this pool and Long Bridge, I haven’t had a hot shower after a swim in three months. ***** The pool is fine. The hours are adequate. But I am taking two stars off for the nasty women’s locker room. Masses of snarled hair, wet TP, and overflowing trash cans were just gross. But what was worse was the smell of urine all over…in the showers, toilets, and changing area. Plus moldy shower curtains. Does this ever get cleaned? I swim in all the Arlington pools and this locker room is the worst. Since the others are better, it suggests a management issue at this one. (UPDATE: it seems to be getting worse. Today the shower was so disgusting, I had to leave without taking a shower. And I’m not like a super clean freak. It is a public locker room. I don’t expect it to be perfect. But there’s been something disgusting in the shower for two weeks so it seems like no one is truly cleaning the showers. I’m taking two more stars off until I see improvement.)
I give the W-L High School Aquatics Center four stars. It's spacious, so I rarely have to split lanes, and the hours are convenient. Overall, it's a great place for uninterrupted swimming and staying active.
It's a nice facility for being in a high school. There lap lanes and a shallow pool for water exercises and new swimmers. Their classes are pretty good.
Clean and well maintained. Swim lanes are not too busy. Only have had three on 1 once in the past 2 months. Staff is friendly and the yearly price is fair.
