Popular outdoor, zero-entry pool with a separate pool for kids.
While specific daily temperatures are not typically published, DPR outdoor pools like Francis Pool are generally heated and maintained at a comfortable swimming temperature, usually ranging from 78-82°F (25-28°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Francis Pool has received mixed reviews, primarily concerning the frequent closure of its deep end, which users attribute to a national lifeguard shortage. This often led to overcrowding in the shallower areas, and past complaints included rude management, pump/filter issues, and general closures. However, reviews for the 2025 season indicate significant improvement. New management, specifically Amina, is credited with making the pool "much better" and "very well run," with consistently clean and recently renovated facilities. Despite past frustrations, many appreciate it as a nice, free amenity for DC residents with an attractive setting.

Love Francis Pool! Best experience there so far this summer (2025) thanks to amazing Amina (pool manager). Pool was very well run (rarely opened late) and facilities recently renovated and clean.
This pool used to be great. For the past two years the deep (adult) end is closed 75% of the time. The management is rude if you ask if it's opening. It will be 95° and everybody has to cram Into the 4ft lap lane pool like people soup. Several other dc pools have been having this issue as well. In fact last year two people drowned because the deep end was closed with no lifeguard while the pool was open as a whole at the pool off north Capitol I believe Randall pool. Same issue. Assume it's been a staffing issue noone cares to fix. Also the pump/ filter Never seems to be working right at this pool. It was closed yesterday until 4 PM. It's just sad we live in the nation's capital and the public pools are half closed all summer. They even redid all the locker rooms last year. But its pointless if the pool is never open. I've been patient but it's been two years now of this nonsense. **update. So far for the 2025 season the pool has been much better. Seems to have new management. Changing review from 1 to 4.
This pool is great. It’s one of the nicest ones in the city. The crowd i rages from adult to children and it’s usually maintained at least decently. Across the nation there is a national shortage of lifeguards. Young people get more serious jobs rather than being a lifeguard so everyone is short of lifeguards. Sometimes that means the deep end is not open but for me, that’s no big deal, it’s an attractive setting with tall trees surrounding the pool about 75% of the encircled pool. It’s a wonderful free amenity for DC residents!!
Great if deep end is open -which it almost never is. It’s absolutely ridiculous how they have this gorgeous space that goes completely unused due to lifeguard shortages. Yes how pleasant to be crammed in with all the lap swimmers and rowdy kids. Also why does the lifeguard need to man the kiddie pool? Shouldn’t they be under parental supervision? Perhaps I am just salty lol but would love a reasonable explanation as to why 1/3 of this lovely pool is constantly closed :(
Nice pool. They blast music during the summer months but it’s a great spot to hangout. The locker rooms are large and clean.
