It features modern fitness facilities including a gymnasium, exercise studios, and a swimming pool, catering to diverse age groups with programs spanning health and wellness, youth development, and community support. It serves as an essential resource for the local community, promoting physical activity, social interaction, and personal growth.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews for 273 Bowery YMCA offer a mixed perspective. A significant point of criticism concerns an adult swimming class, where Coach Carolina was accused of unprofessionalism and unfairness for giving almost exclusive one-on-one attention to one male student, neglecting other paying members. Membership cancellation processes also received negative feedback due to poor customer service, billing issues, and the inconvenience of requiring in-person cancellation. On the positive side, the pool facilities are highly praised for being clean, well-maintained, and having respectful users and great staff. Locker rooms are noted as big and clean, and both dry and "musky" saunas are appreciated. While the gym floor is described as "fairly small" and "barebones" compared to upscale facilities, it's considered a substantial upgrade from NYC rec centers and offers good value for its price and location, providing essential equipment. The basketball courts are also well-maintained and attract a positive crowd. The overall atmosphere is characterized as diverse and somewhat eclectic.

Took the adult swimming class at 273 Bowery YMCA. Coach Carolina is truly unique. Our class had only 5 students, and while she briefly explained to me and another female student, she spent almost the entire session giving one-on-one attention to a male student. Experiencing this kind of “VIP treatment” in a group class was truly unforgettable. Update: I signed up for a group class, but Coach Carolina turned it into a one-on-one session for a male student while ignoring the rest of us. This was extremely unfair and unprofessional. Other paying members were left without proper instruction, which made the whole class meaningless. Very disappointing and not worth the time or money.

Poor customer service. Call on the phone about canceling membership and gave the name, yet kept misspelling it and not understanding. So my father has not been at the gym for a month and yet was still charged. Was told we have to come in to cancel for the signature rather than over the phone which I think is another hassle. Don't understand why cannot cancel over the phone

Lots of cool chinese people and kinda weird semi homeless guys. One time i was doing weights and some old black guy with a beard and a beanie was training karate kid style with a stick in the corridor. Really musky sauna but I love it!!! 5 stars

So far have only used the pool, but it’s a good one. Kept clean and at an okay temperature with 3-4 lanes available for lap swimming. People are generally really respectful and the staff has been great in my experience. Locker rooms are big and also kept clean. Dry sauna is great! The gym is fairly small area but has the essentials. I was a regular at NYC rec centers before, so this feels like a huge upgrade to me. If you’re coming from a nicer gym, it’s gonna feel barebones. But for the price and location, I’m a huge fan of this YMCA.

If I'm ranking the facility, I can't really make an accurate recommendation as I don't have a membership but I thought the basketball courts were well maintained. Great time on a guest pass and nice crowd hooping there on a Thursday night.
