What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Dodge YMCA receives generally positive feedback for its well-equipped, big, and clean facilities, including a super nice pool and great spaces for basketball and pickleball. Its location and supportive community are also highlighted. Staff, such as Gabe at the front desk, are praised for being awesome and going above and beyond. However, a significant concern is that the gym is perceived as being 'overrun by teenagers,' with a lack of staff presence on the gym floor leading to issues with equipment blocking and inappropriate behavior from younger members. Regarding personal trainer Stefan, there is conflicting feedback: some members highly commend him as a knowledgeable, energetic, thoughtful, and effective trainer who provides excellent, demanding, and fun sessions, while another member strongly criticizes him for being consistently inconsiderate and unprofessional, citing incidents like not re-racking weights, taking actively used equipment, and encroaching on workout space without respect, which has negatively impacted their gym experience.

The Dodge is well equipped and a supportive community. In the past year I have had the benefit of excellent weight training with Stefan. He is knowledgeable, energetic, careful and intelligent. And he is able to make the sessions fun and interesting as well as demanding. I feel very lucky to be able to work with him. Thank you Dodge and Stefan!
Pros: Location is great, pool is super nice, facilities are fine. Great space for basketball and pickleball. Cons: This place is overrun by teenagers. Parents drop their kids off like its an after school program and staff are never present on the actual gym floor.. Good luck asking a group of five 16 year old bros to not block equipment. Let alone asking to not be in the selfies sessions they do in the bathroom... You're better off signing up for the bedstuy location as that is a much more adult environment.
I am a huge fan of the YMCA. I enjoy the culture and the community. The Dodge is big, clean and offers so many activities. My life changed when I started having private work-out sessions. Stefan, is a personal trainer… and he is so knowledgeable about the human body. He is very educated… also very thoughtful person.
The Dodge YMCA is the best Y in Brooklyn. The facilities are beautiful and the staff is awesome. Just today I forgot to bring sneakers and Gabe at the front desk kindly let me borrow his for my workout, just another example of how the staff goes above and beyond.
I’ve been going to this gym for over 5 years, but my experience over the past year has gone downhill — mainly because of one personal trainer named Stefan, who is consistently inconsiderate and unprofessional. I’ve seen him leave weight plates without re-racking them on occasion. He once took a handle I was actively using, even though I had clearly stepped away for just a second to refill my water. My phone was still at the station to indicate I was using the equipment, and there were several other handles available. During a training session with a client, he entered the area I was working out in, forcing me to move without any acknowledgment or apology. And he has walked in front of me very close to me while I was lifting. There was plenty of space around us, yet he chose to walk through my workout. which could of caused on injury. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable, especially from a YMCA trainer who should be setting an example for gym etiquette and professionalism. It has made my time at the gym frustrating, when it should be a place to focus and feel supported. No member should have their workout experience compromised by a trainer's repeated lack of respect and awareness. He's unprofessional and should not be a personal trainer who has no respect for gym members.
