About

The Rockaway YMCA, located at 2-07 Beach 73rd St, Queens, NY, serves as a significant community hub, offering a diverse array of programs and facilities. It typically includes a fitness center, gymnasium, and swimming pools, alongside spaces dedicated to youth and family activities. The YMCA provides services such as swim lessons, fitness classes, after-school programs, and summer camps, all aimed at promoting health and community well-being in the Rockaway neighborhood.

While specific daily temperatures for the Rockaway YMCA's pools are not publicly listed, YMCA pools generally maintain different temperature ranges. Lap pools are typically kept cooler, often between 78-82°F (25.5-27.7°C), ideal for swimming laps. Instructional or family pools are usually warmer, commonly ranging from 84-88°F (28.8-31.1°C), for comfort during lessons, therapy, and recreational use.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews for the gym present a mixed picture, with strong praise for specific staff members but significant criticism regarding operational aspects. Several employees received high commendation: Henry, the training manager, is described as kind, knowledgeable, and approachable; trainer Serafina K. is lauded for her incredible dedication, client-focused approach, and patience; and an employee named Brenda is recognized for going "above and beyond" to help. The gym is also appreciated for being well-maintained, offering a variety of classes like cycling and boxing, and having a pool for kids, with some members finding the amount of cardio machines satisfactory. However, a major recurring complaint is about the inconvenient operating hours, particularly early Saturday closings, which many members note has not been addressed despite feedback. Other negative points include a perceived lack of air conditioning, a small weight section, conflicting opinions on the sufficiency of cardio machines, and criticism of some younger staff members for being disengaged or failing to enforce gym rules. Some reviewers also felt the facility might be overly tailored for an older demographic.

I have been a member at this gym for more than 2 years on and off. I recently decided to get a trainer. I met with Henry who is in charge of the training, and the trainers. He's very kind, warm, approachable and very knowledgeable. I got assigned to a trainer Serafina K. She is incredible! She is very conscientious, ambitious, and is solely for her clients best interests. Anything you need to tell her, health related or not she is very open-minded and listens. Serafina K. is kind and patient and explains everything she does before you do the exercise. I would recommend her as a trainer if you are unsure of who to choose when meeting with Henry. I'm sure all of them are excellent. Each client gets matched with the personality that you believe would fit your need. Thankfully Henry assigned me to Serafina. I will continue to attend the gym as time allotment will permit me to due to my schedule Etc. Thank you Henry, thank you YMCA, but most of all thank you Serafina K. for everything you do.

Hours of operation are terrible. They close at 5pm. What gym closes at 5pm on a Saturday? This gym is an actual waste of space. Weight section too small, not enough cardio machines . Staff doesn’t enforce gym rules they’re just Teenagers on their phones . It’s almost like they took every precaution so their aged 65+ customers can’t hurt themselves.

Seeing a lot of reviews on people not liking the hours of operation here. Ymca responds to the feedback which means that they know people don’t like the hours. Still, they don’t change their hours. Air conditioning does not exist at this gym
