Popular inner-city greenery known for its playgrounds, basketball courts, dog runs, street performers and concerts.
Tompkins Square Park features a seasonal outdoor public swimming pool. As is characteristic of NYC Parks' outdoor pools, it is unheated, meaning its temperature naturally fluctuates with ambient weather conditions. Specific temperature readouts are not typically provided, but users can expect the water to be cool, particularly earlier in the swimming season.

I recently visited Tompkins Square Park with my Yorkiepoo, Missy, and we had such a pleasant time. The dog park area is fantastic—divided into two sections, one for small dogs and another for larger breeds. This setup made it feel safe and comfortable, especially since Missy is on the shy side. She mostly sat on the bench beside me, quietly observing all the other dogs having fun. While she didn’t engage much, I know she enjoyed the peaceful, pet-friendly atmosphere. Beyond the dog park, the entire area is beautiful and well-maintained. There are children’s playgrounds with swings and slides, and a huge basketball court for those looking to stay active. The park is very scenic with lots of greenery and tall trees that make it a relaxing place to stroll or just sit and unwind. It was a perfect day to be outside, and we’re definitely planning to come back again. Whether you’re a dog owner, parent, or just someone looking for a nice park in the city, Tompkins Square Park is worth the visit.
Great park to walk through or enjoy some food. They recently finished renovating the bathrooms and it’s nice to see it without all of the construction. Dog park is fun to walk by and there’s usually some action at the skatepark. Lots of nearby restaurants and cafes to grab some food and sit at one of the many benches.
📍 Tompkins Square Park in New York City's Lower East is a popular space for skateboarding and basketball. You can find tables, benches, and water fountains. I recommend this location for photography. ★★★★★
I do love this park because it’s convenient for when I run errands and I always pass through it. Seats on benches usually easy to find. The only downside is that it is a little getho. And I don’t mind the hippies it’s the homeless people that love this park that kinda ruin it.
In my 40 yrs as a denizen of the city I've heard & experienced MUCH in and about Tompkins Square Park... but since becoming a resident of the area, this Horton (c/o Dr.Suess) has been hearing something quite uniquely reserved for the likes of medicine persons, wiccans, shamans, or those in possession of a Rhizotron. What I hear... makes me look up... (and then look down 🤔) ... Oh yeah, the people, vibe, recent renovation, weekend markets, & events like the dance parade 😉)
