NYC Parks outdoor pools, including John Jay Pool, are heated when the ambient air temperature falls below 78° F (25.5° C) to maintain a comfortable swimming environment. The exact water temperature can vary slightly based on this regulation.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The public pool receives overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many reviewers expressing their love for the facility. Key highlights include its cleanliness, welcoming staff, and a serene, safe atmosphere that is less noisy and crowded compared to other public pools in NYC, often without long waiting lines. Visitors appreciate its pleasant location, offering views of the East River and boats, and the presence of a nearby park. However, one notable point of criticism is the current lack of dedicated lap swim times for adults, which forces them to navigate around recreational swimmers and children, a feature some miss from pre-Covid times.

My family and I enjoyed our visit to this public pool. and the view of the east river. Not over crowded and no waiting on a single line just to get in the pool. like other public pools in NYC. We love this pool.
I love this pool, I love the staff there as well I went there a few times this summer everything is clean and everyone makes you feel very welcomed. I would recommend this place to anyone.
I used to love this pool but without lap swims times for adults you have to dodge cannonballing kids so I gave up on it. Another thing that’s gone since Covid.
One of my childhood favorite pools it’s a safe serene pool, clean and with less noise then the popular public swimming pools in a nice neighborhood close to the Mayors manor
I enjoy going to this pool, and there's a park as well, and a place where you can walk down to see the boats go by
