The Rye YMCA, located at 21 Locust Ave, Rye, NY 10580, USA, is a community-focused non-profit organization offering a wide array of programs and facilities for all ages. It provides a comprehensive fitness center, group exercise studios, two indoor heated pools, sports courts, and various spaces for youth development programs, including camps, after-school care, and diverse classes, all aimed at fostering healthy living and social responsibility within the Rye community and surrounding areas.
The Rye YMCA features two indoor heated pools. The 25-yard, 6-lane Brookside Pool, suitable for lap swimming, is maintained at 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26.7°C). The smaller, zero-entry Adventure Pool, which is ideal for families and swim lessons, is kept at a warmer 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31.1°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews highlight several areas for improvement at the facility. A recurring issue is the lack of proper etiquette in the fitness room, where members frequently do not re-rack weights, creating a frustrating environment that staff apparently do not address. The teen passport program's hours are criticized as too restrictive, making it difficult for teens with sports commitments to utilize the gym. Parking is a significant problem, especially during peak afternoon hours, with the lot often full and staff offering little practical help. There's also a specific complaint about a rude, misogynistic employee in the Y studios parking lot. On the positive side, the facility itself is generally considered great, with reception staff and coaches described as polite and friendly. The family swim time is well-regarded, with pleasant pool temperatures and the convenience of on-site swim cap purchases, though reservations and caps are required.

I mainly use the fitness room and many people don't put the weights away making for a frustrating experience. Since the staff doesn't address the issue, it perpetuates with regular members not wanting to be the only ones putting their weights away and new members adopting the bad habits they see. It's sad.
Fitness center is good, but the hours for the teen passport program are honestly horrible, almost every kid in the area has sports practice and has no time to workout after them. When I did the program I got kicked out of the gym after two days of using it because I got back home at 4:30 and I was quite literally unable to workout for more then 15 minutes. I hope whoever is reading this genuinely considers raising the hours to at least 6:00.
The parking lot is a nightmare! My daughter has swiming classes in the afternoon and there is any spot available to park, a lot of cars driving around trying to find a spot , there is 2 guys "helping with traffic " all they do is just look at you and say that is always full , where do they think we will park to bring our kids to the activities??
I have been visiting the Rye Y for a while, people at the reception desk are always polite, the coaches always friendly in general a good atmosphere except for the person in the parking lot at the Y studios, this individual is rude and out of control, completely disrespectful, he doesn’t know how to address another person with respect, I don’t understand, how an institution, that pledges to be “community-focused, family oriented and welcomes all people and promotes positive values through programs that build spirit, mind and body” can have an employee that is misogynistic, and rude, he wouldn’t dare to address a male, the way he dares to talk and yell at a lady
Great facility. Family swim time was very fun for the kids. Reservations for the family swim time were required for the time we went. They also require swim caps, which we bought on site. The (indoor) pool temperature was perfect. They also had a separate pool open for lap swimming.
