Nonprofit organization offering indoor swimming, Zumba classes, childcare, and other wellness activities.
The Indian Valley Family YMCA generally maintains its Lap Pool at approximately 79-80°F (26.1-26.7°C) for fitness swimming, and its Warm Water Pool at a warmer 88-89°F (31.1-31.7°C), suitable for therapy, lessons, and recreational use.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for this YMCA facility present a mixed but predominantly negative picture. Recurring criticisms include unprofessional, rude, and unhelpful staff, with specific incidents ranging from poor call center service to dismissive attitudes and excuses for lacking basic equipment. The facility itself is frequently described as outdated, tiny, and underwhelming compared to newer YMCAs, with limited parking also being an issue. Significant problems exist with the pool, which often experiences closures and delays due to lifeguard shortages and no-shows. Swim lessons are similarly impacted by staffing shortages for instructors and inconsistent quality. A new policy prioritizing class registration for full-membership families has caused considerable frustration, leading non-full-members to feel like 'second-class' citizens and threatening to cancel their memberships. In stark contrast to these complaints, one positive review highly commends the staff for being consistently friendly and helpful, the facility for being clean and organized, and its programs, specifically water exercise, for being fun and effective.

I called the help desk to inquire about the swim lessons. After talking for 15 mins I was not able to get any good information. She kept on giggling to other people that she does not understand my questions. I felt she was very unprofessional. When I said to give the line to someone else to whom I can talk properly she put me on a long hold. I felt her behavior extremely disrespectful and unapologetic. I hope they train their staff well to deal with customers.
The location of this Y is perfect since it’s just a mile from our home. The gym is tiny in comparison to the newer, much larger and updated Y’s, but it does provide you with everything you need for a good workout. My biggest complaint is with the pool. They seem to routinely be understaffed with lifeguards. I’ve been in the pool for less than 10 minutes on multiple occasions when I was informed they would be closing the pool and reopening in 15 minutes because there was only 1 guard on duty. More than once I arrived at 5am to swim, only to be told the lifeguard didn’t show up (this morning was the 3rd time it’s happened). The staff has always been friendly, so I really want to rate it higher. But the inconsistency with the pool and the underwhelming gym makes it hard to give it anything higher than a 2 star, especially when you see what other Y’s offer at the same price.
We've gone here for our sons' swimming lessons for over a year. The experience has been hit-or-miss as there seems to be a real staffing shortage for instructors and several of them aren't very good. The lesson times are also very limited and mostly available on Saturdays. Today I was told of a new policy that will ensure we don't return. The YMCA has decided that we can no longer sign up our children for classes at the same time as full-membership families. My youngest son has special needs and his membership is paid for through insurance. Apparently this also means he is treated like a second-class member and we will be edged out of the already limited lesson times that he can attend. My other son has a lessons-only membership so he is also not able to sign up until a week after registration opens. I'm sure this is just their most recent play to get more people to sign up for family memberships but instead it means we'll be dropping our memberships altogether and no longer attending any lessons. This is the last straw among many other issues including: - rude staff - outdated facility - limited parking - lack of communication
I've traveled to 6 states so far and had a membership in all those states for the Y. This facility is probably the WORST I've ever been to. There staff are just not friendly and frankly very rude. I one time ask someone where the dance class was and he talked to me like I was stupid. I've never been in there before. They also are limited in supplies. Every other facility I've been to small or large has mats, towels, different equipment to help you with your fitness practice. This facility lacks that and made excuses that it was because of covid when we're in 2023 and every other facility including the nearby onei in Lansdale supplies mats. They definitely can loan you a Pilates ball but they can't lend you a mat. The energy of this whole facility is off and it shows.
The Staff are ALWAYS Friendly and Helpful. It's ALWAYS Clean and Organized. This YMCA is ALWAYS Fun, and Has Many Programs to Join. I Only Had 3 Very Easy and Fun Water Exercise Classes. And I lost 10 Pounds. No Struggle, And like I said, FUN. I WOULD GREATLY RECOMMEND THIS YMCA. John Hall.
