Big space for kids to play and families, featuring soccer areas, playgrounds, splash pads and trails.
Specific pool temperatures are generally not applicable or publicly advertised for splash pads like River Road City Park Splash Pad. These facilities typically use unheated, ambient temperature water, often sourced from the municipal water supply, rather than maintained pools with controlled temperatures.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? River Road Park generally receives positive feedback for its cleanliness, peaceful atmosphere, and well-maintained facilities. Visitors praise the variety of amenities, including a popular splash pad, modern playground equipment, large grassy areas for sports, soccer fields, tennis, and basketball courts. Restrooms are noted as spotless, and ample parking is available, making it a great spot for families. However, significant concerns include a highly negative experience with a pavilion rental, which was found dirty and severely infested with hornets/bees, resulting in a child being stung and a lack of responsiveness from the Parks and Recreation Department regarding a refund. Additionally, while the main park area is considered safe and beautiful, access to the river can be steep, marked 'No Trespassing,' and some areas near the river have been noted to contain trash and glass.

Super nice park tucked back off the beaten path. It’s refreshing to visit a park that’s clean — no trash, and no unpleasant interactions to deal with. The restroom was spotless, and there’s a splash pad along with really nice playground equipment. The park also has two large soccer fields, a tennis court, and a basketball court. The walking path runs near the river, though access is very steep and posted “No Trespassing – City of Salem,” likely due to safety and limited access. I went on a Saturday afternoon with my dog, and it wasn’t busy at all. Parking was plentiful, which made it even better. Overall, a clean, peaceful, and well-maintained park worth visiting.
We rented the pavilion at River Road Park for my toddlers birthday party on September 13, 2025, and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The pavilion was dirty when we arrived, which was uninviting, but the major issue was the overwhelming presence of hornets or bees. They were swarming the covered area around the food, plates, and guests, which made it nearly impossible to use the space safely. One child was even stung, which was very upsetting. What’s especially frustrating is that there was no warning about this issue ahead of time. If we had known the pavilion had a known hornet problem, we absolutely would have made other plans. This kind of issue should be disclosed to renters in advance, and proper preventative measures should be in place. I emailed the Parks and Recreation Department after the event to express my concerns and request a partial or full refund, but I haven’t received any response. Ironically, they were very quick and responsive when I was booking and paying for the rental. It’s disappointing to be met with silence when there’s a real issue affecting safety and the quality of the rental. I wouldn’t recommend renting this space unless you can get clear confirmation that these issues have been addressed.
My first time there, I took one of my grandchildren, and she loved it! They have a large grassy area, where you can play team sports, or just run around. They have a good size area with water features, for the kids to splash around in, and they have a playground area with toys for the kids to climb on and around. The only downside, were two parents who were chasing each other through the water features, and not watching out for kids. This was the only negative to an otherwise wonderful visit! They even have flush toilets, and ice cream trucks driving through. I will take my other grandchildren there, as they visit throughout the summer!
I shot some pictures up of the backside of the park. If your intent is to stay away from the river then the park area is beautiful and safe. Just be careful if you plan to go to the water, lots of trash/glass back there. Try to have fun and stay safe folks!
I saw lots on cool stuff, plants, animals, rocks, the willamette river, i even ran into a couple of people i knew! Oh, there r even some pipes, & stuff, spewing up water, on hot days, & my bike can be seen cooling off, in background...
