What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for JCC Columbia present a mixed experience. Many members praise the facility for its friendly staff, clean environment (though one review noted a recent lack of shower soap), and positive atmosphere, often describing it as a 'community center' suitable for both individual workouts and family activities, with a variety of amenities including a gym, track, pool, and basketball court. Improvements like better membership checks have also been acknowledged. However, significant negative feedback points to issues with management and policy changes. New, restrictive guest policies (e.g., guest limits and no guests on weekends) have led to frustration and membership cancellations from long-term members. There is also a call for more diverse and higher-impact group classes. A severe complaint involved the double-booking of a banquet hall, causing considerable delays and additional costs for an event, with management reportedly unresponsive to the issue.

I’ve been a member to this gym for 5 years. Now there is some rule for two guest limit and no guests on the weekends. I’ve been in the business for years and I know how to run one. I don’t think you should “discipline” the guests that act civilized in your establishment especially if they are in good standing with YOUR business. If someone is at fault you discipline the culprit not the victim. It’s simple. None of this makes sense there are no open gyms in Columbia. I trusted this business now I have to unfortunately cancel my membership…This isn’t fair!
JCC Columbia no longer provide soap in the showers. I took a shower today to find an empty dispenser. Then other members were complaining as well saying they stopped around Dec 1st. This really sucks! Need more group classes & a variety that caters to people less than 50. Need Higher impact. Positive: Far better than in the past. Now they actually check memberships without letting nonmembers take over the basketball court & gym. they have a friendly, thorough young guy that cleans the gym. He actually speak which is a breath of fresh air from the previous cleaning guy. Nice atmosphere & calm!
The JCC is a great place to work and workout. I've been here for over 3 years and I love it. Everyone is really friendly and the atmosphere is great. The gym, locker rooms, and pool is kept really clean. There is something for everyone when it comes to classes and programs. It's much more than a gym, it really is a community center. That's why I love being here!
JCC is a great gym for working out and for family activities. The gym is not huge at all ut it is a reasonable size and has everything you need to get in a good workout. They also have a 1/10 mile track upstairs, a swimming pool and basketball court so you're not just limited to weight lifting and cardio machines. They have several family events throughout the year, although they've been heavily slowed since Covid hit the country. I've been to several events over the years and the members are always nice and welcoming to everyone. It's a great place for the family.
Very disappointed with the unprofessional service I received from the JCC this past weekend. I rented the banquet hall for a birthday celebration and the JCC double booked the banquet room causing my event to be late. JCC notified me about this error approximately 2 hours before I was scheduled to begin decorating. I finally gained access to the banquet room at the time my event was scheduled to start! The only positive note is that the front desk staff and the janitorial staff did a great job helping me through the chaos to get the banquet room setup. (hence the 1 star) We were finally able to seat guests in the banquet room about an hour and a half after my scheduled start time. This mismanagement by the JCC cost me additional money for my photographer, caterer, and decorator. JCC management continue to be unresponsive to my phone calls and messages.
