About

Goldfish Swim School - Flushing, located at 133-27 39th Ave, Flushing, NY, is an indoor, year-round swim school dedicated to teaching children of all ages essential swimming skills and water safety. The facility offers a unique, proprietary curriculum, small class sizes, and a safe, fun, and engaging environment for learning.

The swim school maintains its pools at a comfortable and consistent temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 32 degrees Celsius), ensuring a warm environment for all swimmers.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? Goldfish Swim School receives a blend of positive and negative feedback. On the positive side, many customers appreciate the clean facilities, warm water, and the availability of numerous classes, especially on weekends, allowing for flexible scheduling. The app for self-service is generally liked, and many instructors are described as helpful, engaging, and effective in teaching and motivating children with awards. The General Manager, Christopher, is specifically commended for exceptional customer service and problem resolution. However, significant concerns are also raised. Several reviews highlight serious customer service issues, including miscommunication regarding membership benefits, unfulfilled reimbursement promises, and a perceived lack of accountability from management when issues arise. A particularly severe complaint details an instructor physically shaking a 4-year-old child, leading to child safety concerns and disappointment that the instructor remained employed. Other criticisms include classes having too many children, resulting in limited individual swim time for the cost, and a need for more frequent toilet maintenance due to high traffic. The reviews collectively suggest a need for more consistent employee training in both customer service and appropriate instructor conduct.

I like this place because it's relatively new and there are so many classes on the weekends that I can flexibly change my schedule as needed. I like the app that I can do online myself without calling but of course the staff helps better during phone call. It would be more present experience if the toilets sanitary can be maintained on a more frequent basis due to the high traffic. The teachers were flexible and helpful to intervene when they see a new student or an upset student, so other student's already limited time is not compromised. I also appreciate the awards or sticker or balloon that were given out at the end of the class completion, my son likes to go more and more now.

Honestly, it’s nice and clean. The water is warm. My daughter loves going every time. Only issue I have is that sometimes there’s three and four kids. My daughter is only five and she really only gets a couple of minutes swimming inside the pool, which is a little expensive for me. Overall, the locker room is the bathrooms are clean. The instructors are nice her instructor she loves her.

I am so disappointed in this Goldfish location. I took my daughter here because we had purchased a Blue Membership. Towards the end of my membership I had make-up classes and the four extra casual classes that were included. Before my membership ended I had confirmed three times with the front desk that make-up classes were only allowed to be used with active membership while casual classes could be used after my membership ended. Therefore I used up my make-up classes first and saves my casual classes for later. I had used my first casual class when my membership ended but when I called today to book the class today, the girl who picked up the phone booked the class for me and a couple of hours before the class, I received a text saying I wasn’t able to use the class since I wasn’t a member. We are just so disappointed in the miscommunication their team has displayed. The manager didn’t even get on the phone to talk to us even though we were clearly upset that we had been told false information. While the instructors themselves are amazing, the cost of bringing our child here isn’t worth the terrible customer service we experienced. Clearly they are not training their employees correctly. We’ll definitely search for a different swim school from now on.

My son was in this school for over a year and he had one of the best instructors (Sophie) She was beyond awesome and he was doing great. However, after a while they changed the instructor and we had the worst experience with this girl named MADISON who in the second class with my son shook him from his shoulders while yelling him to pay attention. She did this super quickly and she inmediately turned around and smiled and laughed like nothing had happened which makes me think she has mastered this behavior and fools the parents by smiling to the child right after shaking them. I inmediately went and asked her why she did that and she said: “Oh it was just a little game” We complained to the manager and she excused herself saying she was just playing. I don’t know what kind of game was that but shaking a 4 year old is unacceptable let alone super dangerous, as she could have hit my son’s head in the edge of the pool. We were offered apologies from the manager but after seeing how she continued to work there we decided to end the membership. We did the three remaining tokens with another instructor and there were still three classes for which we agreed we were going to be reimbursed but that never happened. My review is for the parents to never let your guard down. We noticed what she did right away because we were both paying attention but she did it so quickly that it could have been perfectly missed. The other little boy that was with my son in that class kept crying the whole time both times we attended. I keep wondering if she did something like that to him. I think this Goldfish facility started really well, the managers are super helpful, the facility is clean and I do think they have amazing instructors, but the fact that this lady accepted she shook my son and continued to work there is beyond unacceptable to me. I don’t like to leave negative reviews but I think it is my responsibility to inform parents of a potential threat to their kids. I think it also helps businesses to improve and work in a better training for their employees.
