Community-focused center offering yoga and fitness classes, plus a pool.
The 14th Street Y features an Aquatics Center with two heated pools: a Lap Pool, typically maintained at 80-82°F (26.5-27.5°C), and a warmer Teaching Pool, usually kept at 86-88°F (30-31°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The facility receives mixed reviews. Positive feedback highlights its top-notch gym, great basketball court, and well-maintained theater with a creative vibe, noting efficient staff, caring leadership, and engaging community events. The fitness area is generally clean, though some members don't wipe down machines, prompting a suggestion for clearer signage. Conversely, the pool area draws significant criticism regarding inconsistent and surly lifeguards, confusing rules (e.g., prohibiting strokes), and even a serious safety concern about asbestos. The pool is also noted as small and often crowded for lap swimming. While some find it family-friendly and responsive staff are mentioned, there's a recurring clarification that the 'Y' in its name does not signify affiliation with the YMCA network.

The fitness area at the 14th Street Y is generally clean and well kept, which I appreciate. One concern, though, is that many members do not wipe down the machines after using them. Since there aren’t attendants assigned to handle this, I think it would be very helpful if the gym placed clear and visible signs reminding members to clean the equipment once they’re finished. This would go a long way in maintaining hygiene and making the space more pleasant for everyone
This place is fantastic! The gym facilities are top-notch, the basketball court is great, and the theater is not only well-maintained but also has a unique, creative vibe. The facilities team is clearly on the ball—they keep everything running smoothly and it shows. There’s always something exciting going on here, from community events to awesome open mic nights. You can also tell the leadership really cares—there have been some impressive upgrades throughout the building over the past couple of years. A truly well-run, welcoming space!
Just so there is no confusion, this is NOT a YMCA, they’ve just coopted the Y nickname. Lifeguards seem to enforce rules only when they feel like it and when they can seize on some ah-ha energy by embarrassing parents there with their children for swim lessons. Swim instructors themselves seem great at helping small children comfortable in the water. Overall not totally pleased with our experience and probably wouldn’t recommend to other parents.
Planning on swimming without actually swimming : this is your pool . Aside from The fluffy low hanging clouds of asbestos above the pool , was instructed by surly lifeguard that no Strokes ( free breast butter NO strokes permitted) while bobbing in deep end . Asked how we were to arrive to the ledge if not allowed to swim (bob?) she shrugged and stomped away .
Responsive staff, comprehensive equipment, small pool but does the job (for those who enjoy lap swimming, it gets quite crowded). Note that this place is not in the same network as the YMCA (thus the Y in the name is a bit confusing), but quite family friendly
