About

Historic building featuring a 30- by 75-ft. swimming pool, plus fitness equipment, and a teen fitness program.

The indoor pool at the Metropolitan Recreation Center typically maintains a temperature between 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 26.7-27.8 degrees Celsius), consistent with standard operating temperatures for New York City Parks indoor swimming facilities.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The recreation center is currently closed, causing significant frustration and disappointment among community members who are eager for its reopening due to its importance as an affordable local resource. Prior to its closure, the center was highly valued for a variety of programs, including expert-led art classes with Mr. Pringles, Taekwondo with Sensei Nash, and a highly-regarded swim program led by Coach Johnny and his team, which also featured women's-only hours. Patrons appreciated the cardio and weight rooms, and the staff were generally considered nice. Minor complaints included a lack of adequate seating for parents during swim lessons and the center not being open on Sundays.

We love Mr Pringles Art classes. Learn so much from an expert who studied at Cooper Union. He makes the spectacular Halloween even each year. Awesome Taekwondo with Sensei Nash and best swim program in the NYC area. Thank you Coach Johnny and team

This rec center / pool is CLOSED! I don’t know why they haven’t updated their google page and…what happened to my membership fee? Why is it taking so long to reopen? This is an important affordable resource for the community in this extremely expensive neighborhood. I’m so out of shape lol WHEN ARE TOU REOPENING???? I LOVE YOU!!!! 😭

Really enjoyed this place while it was open. They have a cardio and weight room. Weight room was small but it had free weights + the smith machine and you can get a decent workout in. Pool was also nice and they're strict about not going into the pool before taking a shower which is a plus. They also had womens only hours for the pool!

Nice staff, decent building. My son loves coming here for his swimming lessons and always has so much fun. My only complaint would be lack of seating for parents waiting for kids in swimming lessons. Only 2 benches and usually coats and bags hog the seats, which is a lack of courtesy by the other parents but still could use more seating.
