What are people saying (AI review summary)? Bretton Woods receives mixed reviews, with experiences varying significantly. Many praise the stunning grounds, beautiful tennis courts, soccer fields, and restaurant, often from a member's perspective. One positive day camp review highlighted friendly, organized staff, engaging activities that left kids happily exhausted, and good provided food. However, a prominent negative day camp experience described it as a "complete waste of money" due to extreme heat, a lack of engaging activities, and inattentive teenage counselors, leading children to beg not to return. This review also noted confusing website registration between 'day camp' and 'adventure camp.' Additionally, some found the lifeguards at the otherwise nice swimming pools to be annoying and rude.
Reviews
Buyer beware. Firstly, their website is confusing. There are two SEPARATE registrations, one for adventure camp and one for day camp. We had looked at pictures of kids on the Potomac and it looked like a nice camp option for these hot summer days. However, unless you go to a separate web page for “adventure camp” your child will not have a fun-filled day on the water but instead will default to their “day camp” which is a VASTLY different scene. My child spent his first day in misery in EXTREME heat saying he was basically sitting outdoors all day with nothing to do but watch one of the few other kids in his group play on his iPhone all day. There was one hour of pool time (which he said was not fun because the pool was too crowded to play) but other than that no effort to help kids cool off in almost 100 degree heat (apparently the counselors accidentally missed their “AC turn”). The vast majority of the day the teenage counselors just put crafts on a bench and sat talking to each other while kids sat and did nothing in extreme heat (aside from the one kid with the iPhone). We complained and they they would put out a slipn’slide the next day but I can do that in my own back yard for free. It was so bad that my son begged not to go back and with the extreme heat we are letting him stay home and entertain himself instead. This was the most expensive camp we signed up for this summer and it was a complete waste of money. My friends child registered also and is similarly begging not to go back My son is not picky and either is her son. It is simply that bad.. Be warned!!
Nice swimming pools but the lifeguards are just too annoying whistling at everyone all the time. They are rude to children as well as adults. Definitely not nice to get told off by a sixteen years old for holding the lines.
Our kids loved day camp at Bretton Woods. The counselors and administrators were friendly, responsive, and well-organized. The activities were super fun and had our kids exhausted--in a very good way--by the end of the day. Lunches and snacks, which were provided by the camp--a great bonus--were a hit. The only less than positive feedback I would offer is that there was a fair amount of sitting around and waiting at the start of the day, due to the buses arriving later than car riders. Otherwise, we couldn't have been happier with the experience and will certainly be back next year!
I wasn't there but it sounded like people were having fun
I love Bretton Woods!! I have been a member since I was a child and it still brings me joy to visit. The grounds are stunning! Beautiful tennis courts, and soccer fields and I love the restaurant.
