Legion Outdoor Pool is a seasonal public swimming facility located in Columbia, SC. Operated by the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation, it provides a refreshing outdoor environment for recreational swimming, often including amenities like diving boards, during the summer months. It serves as a popular community spot for families and individuals to cool off and enjoy aquatic activities.
As an outdoor public pool, Legion Outdoor Pool is typically unheated or naturally warmed by solar radiation. Consequently, the water temperature fluctuates with the ambient air temperature and daily sun exposure. Specific, consistently published temperature data for the pool is generally not available, and swimmers should anticipate water temperatures that reflect the prevailing weather conditions.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The pool is generally praised for its convenience, warm water, dedicated lifeguard staff, ample shaded seating, and areas catering to various age groups and swimming abilities. However, significant negative feedback surrounds the staff, who are described as incompetent, unhelpful, and rude, particularly regarding payment issues (malfunctioning credit card machine, inability to do basic math), and their refusal to issue refunds or rain checks for early closures due to weather or incidents. Other criticisms include a perceived high entry fee ($6 per person), inaccurate hours posted online, below-average locker rooms, lack of on-site snack/drink sales, and a strict policy against infant inflatables.
Reviews
Nice pool, below avg locker room, nice shaded area for chairs, areas for all patrons; toddlers, youth non swimmers, and Swimmers, no snack sales, safe as guarded by certified lifeguards. Shaded parking area
This is a really nice pool right on post kinda away from everything but still super convenient especially on hot days. The water is warm, couple of lifeguards always on the look out and the deeper section is divided with a rope. There is also a diving board in the deeper section. Lots of chairs with shade. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because after being on other posts, $6 per person for entry seems kinda steep.
Hours of operation on Google are not accurate. Refer to picture below or the MWR website. Don’t be fooled! Otherwise, nice place to relax.
Staff is incompetent, couldn't do basic math of 5×4 because I quote "Haha sorry I don't have to do this that often. Credit card machine would not work and instead of trying to fix it my family was sent to go find cash. Finally get back with $20 and swim for about 20 minutes before it's starts thundering. My family does not live on post and was told the pool will reopen 30 minutes after the last thunder was heard. I asked since we are wet and have no idea when it will be open and we live off post, could we please just have a rain check for tomorrow. They would not issue us a rain check. They were not helpful in any way. Feels like we were robbed $20 having to jump through hoops to even get in. Staff does not care or is willing to work with you.
Horrible someone had a nose bleed and we had to leave soon as we got there and it wasnt even 10 min they didnt even refund or money. They dont serve drinks or food and they don't allow inflatables for infants and staff is rude would not recommend
