I go to this pool frequently and every single time they are very stingy about turning the slide on. I don't remember ever seeing a slide off in a pool.unless it's broken. But this one is off all the time! Yesterday the stinginess was so obvious: The wave pool was temporarily closed when we arrived but they still didn't turn it on! At least not that we witnessed. And they told me it would go on at 4:45 but that's when lessons start. So my kids leave disappointed once again. The front staff are always kind and welcoming and helpful! 5 stars for them!!
Took the kids swimming. They enjoyed themselves, but there wasn't a pool. There was a lazy river with a whirlpool, not that big. There was also a wave pool that went up to 5 ft. So we really couldn't swim, more like slash around in the water.
These lifeguards… Our daughter was so excited to come here for the first time because of the slide and the lifeguards turned it on for about 10 minutes, she went down it 3 times, and then they immediately turned it off. When I asked the lifeguard why, he was very rude and shrugged and said, “Not enough lifeguards”. We looked around and there were 7 lifeguards in the lifeguard’s office and that amount remained in the office for the next hour that we were swimming there following the slide being turned off. There were an additional 3 lifeguards watching their zones around the pool. With a lifeguard placed at the top of the stairs leading to the slide and one at the bottom of the slide, that still leaves plenty of lifeguards and downtime for everyone throughout their rotations. The music was so loud, it hurts when you’re using the lazy river because the giant speaker is pointed directly at the swimmers 2 feet from the lazy river water. One lifeguard was really enjoying the music, singing and closing her eyes the whole time. 😬 I got yelled at for maybe 5 different things by the same lifeguard, once because I was standing in the little whirlpool helping my 4 and 6 year olds. It’s honestly laughable, these lifeguards really mess up the whole experience. My first job as a kid was lifeguarding at that very same pool, as well as other YMCA pools, for years and it was never like this. I suppose things have changed. The pool area is well kept but the showers and bathrooms are very dated and not well cleaned. The low rating is mostly due to the lifeguards making it hard to enjoy the facility.
It is an older facility, but very clean. The weight room is small, but has all the important Basics making any workout possible with only minor adaptations. The locker rooms are very basic but more than adequate. And, the staff is friendly.
I can’t bring my 8 year old to the pool at the Y without being charged $15 and I’m not even getting in the pool and I tell them that every time. The Y is too expensive and unfair to weekend dads on this dumb policy. Last time they stated that I count for their capacity. Really! Just give me some bracelet for people that are not going in the pool and don’t charge me! The Y used to be about a place for underprivileged people to get exercise. Now it’s just too expensive and about old people getting free memberships on the backs of everyone else.
