What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Ankeny pool receives mixed reviews, often praised as a nice, reasonably priced facility well-suited for families with young children due to features like a zero-entry pool, shallow areas, and attentive lifeguards. However, several issues were highlighted by visitors. A new rule prohibiting goggles with nose covers was met with criticism for being insensitive and unaccommodating to a child with autism, leading to a negative experience and a strict 'no refund' policy. The general no-refund policy, even for issues like unannounced closures, was a point of frustration for some. Other complaints included the lack of tap payment options, children over two being charged adult prices, and concession stands running out of items early in the day. Despite these concerns, many appreciate the overall amenities and safety for younger ages.

Today I took my kids to the Ankeny pool today for a fun day. We have been here several times with no issues. I have an 11 year old who is on the Autism Spectrum and he absolutely can not swim without a set of goggles covering his nose. The pool has a new rule about not having goggles with a nose cover. Yes he could wear normal goggles with a nose plug but he is extremely sensitive to certain things and his face is one of them. He refused to enter the 1 foot kiddie pool without the certain goggles as if it’s his safety blanket. Spoke to manager who was very firm about the new rule and when I asked for a refund for my son who won’t be swimming she said no refunds as it’s an entrance fee and not a swimming fee. I felt the interaction and no refund was very insensitive and I will not be coming to this pool ever again. They are NOT special needs or Autism sensitive or accommodating.
A fantastic pool to hit up on a hot day. Very reasonably priced and with a ton of room on seats and the grass to relax. There's a ton of shallow area for the toddlers, and even a wide shallow slide for them! There's bigger slides for the bigger kids with height requirements. And there's even a splash pad to play in when it's lifeguard break time. Lifeguards are plentiful and attentive, always watching and in every part of the pool, so it feels very safe
The beach style zero entry pool is perfect. Four stars because my daughter and I were next in line on a slide when the whistle blew and the lifeguard didn’t let us go down. It was the wide, medium sized slide. Probably a rule, but lame.
Nice place. what I didn’t like is no tap pay and any child above the age of 2 is considered an adult price. The concession stand has a sign on the window Combo special and of course they are out of the pizza that’s included in this special this 2 hours after they opened.
It's a very nice facility particularly for ages 10 and under. Staff is pretty attentive and it's usually not very crowded. They do tend to close down without notice and have a no refund policy which can be frustrating.
